Applications for permanent residence via the provincial nominee program - which is not points tested - are encouraged from people with skills that will enable them to contribute to the Canadian economy. The Provincial Nominee Program allows provinces of Canada to select migrants with regard to the economic needs of the area. The perceived ease of settlement will also be considered.

The following Canadian provinces participate:

  • Alberta;
  • British Columbia;
  • Manitoba;
  • New Brunswick;
  • Newfoundland;
  • Nova Scotia;
  • Prince Edward Island;
  • Saskatchewan; and
  • The Yukon Territory.

To immigrate under such a visa an application must first be made to the province in which the migrant wishes to live. If the migrant is then nominated by that province, a separate application is made to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) for permanent residence. A CIC officer will assess your application based on Canadian immigration regulations.
