Gillett Jr. has taken a huge step toward expanding his sports empire, today coming to terms for ownership of the English Premier League’s Liverpool F.C. with fellow American sports tycoon Tom Hicks, owner of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, for a total sum estimated at $1 billion Canadian.We are now seeing more and more ‘internationalization’ and ‘co-branding’ of sports teams across different types of sports in different countries. This is surely the beginning of a much larger phenomenon to come between big league ownership in North America and Europe.
