New Canadian Immigration Minister

Diane Finley has moved from Service Canada (formerly Human Resources and Social Development) to become the new Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. She has taken over from former Minister Monte Solberg who has now taken Finley’s old job at Service Canada.

This is good news for the industry in that both departments should soon be able to synchronize their policies. It is possible we could see a one stop approach to obtaining labour market opinions and the issuance of work permits. Hopefully a common sense approach will prevail in that both departments will now harmonize and streamline some of the redundant processing issues.
